In one of those small clues in the press about how disability is being viewed, I noticed the inclusion of the movie \u201cMy Left Foot\u201d (MLF) in a list of movies about artists in the Sunday, February 16, SF Chronicle. (Sunday\u2019s Pink Section ) The list was created to give video rental ideas to people who are interested in the new movie \u201cPollock.\u201d Having received the obligatory Best Actor Oscar for bravely portraying a disabled person I thought the world viewed MLF as a crip flick like. Rain Man and Born on the Fourth of July. To see MLF listed with \u201cBasquiat\u201d and \u201cLust for Life\u201d was exciting. I like the movie and Daniel Day-Lewis\u2019s portrayal of Christy Brown\u2019s anger and frustrations. It really gives me hope that disabled people are becoming included in the mainstream without having to give up our disability identity and pride.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
