It\u2019s being shown at the <a href=\"http:\/\/disthis.org\/\">diTHIS! Film Series<\/a>. The Series showcases films on disability that you probably won\u2019t see anywhere else.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The description for El Cochecito says it is, \u201ca dark comedy about an old man who would kill \u2014 literally \u2014 for a motorized wheelchair, but not because he needs one, but so he can ride through town with his rambunctious disabled friends.\u201d Finally, a movie showing a wheelchair as an agent of mobility and freedom rather than a cage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are other films listed on their site that look interesting including Dance to Me My Song which knocked \u2019em out at Cannes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For once, I\u2019m sorry that I don\u2019t live on the East Coast. We\u2019re blessed with disability related activities, culture, and politics here in the Bay Area, but there\u2019s cutting-edge disability art of all kinds all around the globe. It has a hard time getting distributed. Rarely, do art shows travel. Even films like El Cochecito don\u2019t have a venue here. If SuperFest picks them up and if I\u2019m free the weekend of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.culturedisabilitytalent.org\/superfest\/index.html\">SuperFest<\/a>, then I\u2019ll see it. Otherwise, PBS is our only hope and they are, understandably, less than radical. Ah, the travails of a marginalized, poor community.
