(He\u2019s fascinated by the use of anthems \u2014 both contemporary and historical \u2014 and how they connect.) He pointed me to an Alt-Country song, \u201cWe Can\u2019t Make It Here Any More\u201d by James McMurtry and a video on YouTube<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Vietnam Vet with a cardboard sign<br>Sitting there by the left turn line<br>Flag on the wheelchair flapping in the breeze<br>One leg missing, both hands free<br>No one\u2019s paying much mind to him<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I replied saying that songs like McMurty\u2019s use the strong symbolism and verbal imagery of wheelchair users as a trope to bolster their polemics.
