I was hanging out in the bar with a bunch of folks at SDS last June. One of the party innocently asked, \u201cWhat do you guys think about the new access symbol business?\u201d Even dead sober I couldn\u2019t help but go on a rant. I knew I had been thinking about how I didn\u2019t like the new active symbol, but I was surprised at my vehemence. The short version is, I think it distracts the disability community from more important activism, and it seeks to personalize the symbol excluding all but the active, paraplegic, manual wheelchair users.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
