Disability and the Arts in Germany

I think that disability culture is starting to break out. On the Yahoo Disabilities and Disabled news page, the lead story was an LA Times review of a German art show, The [Im]Perfect Human Being. From the story as well as the web site, it appears to be a heady mix of the avant garde, disability consciousness, and historical perspectives in a mainstream art setting. (Unfortunately for us English monolinguists the text is in German.) Seeing it encouraged me. It feels like the point of view, political stance, and cultural strivings that we have been advocating over the past twenty years is coming to fruition. It’s both wonderful and scary to see it leave our small community.
